Abstract

This study aims to eradicate illiteracy among the elderly through the application of literacy culture based on local wisdom in senior schools. The method used in this research is a literature review, encompassing an examination of various sources related to literacy efforts and local wisdom. The primary focus of this effort involves four aspects of local wisdom: the use of local languages and folklore, the inclusion of traditional arts and skills, the involvement of community leaders and local culture, and the utilization of local spaces and environments as learning media. The use of regional languages and local folklore is intended to enhance the connection and relevance of learning materials for the elderly. Meanwhile, traditional arts and skills such as batik, weaving, and regional music are integrated into literacy activities to increase learning interest and preserve cultural heritage. The involvement of community leaders and local cultural figures is expected to provide inspiration and motivation, as well as add deeper historical and cultural context. Finally, utilizing local public spaces such as village halls and parks as learning environments aims to create a more enjoyable and meaningful literacy process. The results of this research are expected to offer insights into effective strategies for eradicating illiteracy among the elderly through a culturally-based literacy approach grounded in local wisdom
