Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate teaching materials on the theme of the legacy and history of Raja Ali Haji for grade VIII students in Tanjungpinang City in the subject of Social Studies. The study used a qualitative approach with the R&D method, direct research involving interviews, filling out questionnaires, classroom observations, and document analysis at MTs Negeri Tanjungpinang. The teaching materials developed consist of interactive modules that integrate the biography of Raja Ali Haji, his contribution to the world of Malay literature, and their relationship and relevance in the context of the local history of Tanjungpinang City. The results of the study showed that these teaching materials were effective in increasing students' knowledge, understanding and motivation towards their local history. Students showed higher participation and activeness in following the teaching and learning process after using these teaching materials. Researchers reported an increase in student learning motivation and the quality of classroom discussions. This study concludes that contextual and relevant teaching materials can increase positive experiences in learning Social Studies and suggests the use of these teaching materials in other schools and the need for further research to determine their long-term impact. The results of this study contribute to the development of a more contextual, inclusive and equitable Social Studies curriculum in Tanjungpinang City.
