This article examines the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in information systems on labour and society. AI has revolutionised the way information systems work, opening up new opportunities while presenting significant challenges. In terms of benefits, AI increases efficiency and productivity, improves quality of life through more accurate medical diagnosis, and enhances customer service. In addition, AI helps optimise supply chains and enables more personalised education. However, the negative impacts include job losses, increased economic disparity, bias in algorithms, as well as privacy concerns and dependence on technology. Nonetheless, AI remains a driver of change in information systems, which requires synergy between governments, companies and society. Investments in workforce training, the development of thoughtful regulations, and the application of ethics in the use of AI are important steps towards the sustainable use of AI that benefits the entire society. This article provides a perspective on the role of AI in the transformation of modern information systems and the importance of ethical considerations in its application.
