THE IMPACT OF OIL PALM PLANTATIONS ON SOCIAL CHANGE IN THE COMMUNITY IN MARGA MULIA VILLAGE, KOMBENG DISTRICT, EAST KUTAI REGENCY

Writing this article aims to provide an understanding of the social changes in society caused by the entry of oil palm plantations. The research problem discussed is how does the existence of oil palm plantations impact social change in the community in Marga Mulia Village? The aim of this research is divided into two, the first: to describe and analyze social changes in society before and after the existence of oil palm plantations. Second: describe and analyze the causes and impacts of social change in the community in Marga Mulia Village. In this research the author used qualitative research methods. The theories that the author uses are the Theory of Social Change and the Theory of Social Solidarity as analytical tools. The results of this research reveal the existence of social changes in society. Factors causing social change in society are population growth, the influence of other cultures, the development of road access and the presence of electricity. Some impacts resulting from social changes in society are positive and some are negative. The positive impact of social change in society is easy and fast community activities, improving the quality of public health and increasingly developing people's mindsets. Meanwhile, the negative impacts caused by social changes in society are the difficulty of employment opportunities, increasing individuality and environmental pollution. Based on the research findings, the author concludes that the community in Marga Mulia Village has experienced social change and a change in social solidarity from mechanical to organic.
