Abstract
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) is an infectious disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Based on data from the West Papua Health Office as of December 13, 2020, confirmed cases of Covid-19 in West Papua are still increasing every day. There have been no previous studies in West Papua regarding the characteristics of Covid-19 patients and the relation to severity of the disease. The objective of this study is to determine the relation between characteristics of the disease and the severity of Covid-19 patients. This study was conducted on patients with confirmed case of covid-19 in Covid-19 Emergency Hospital in Sorong City and Regency who were treated from March 2020-December 2020 on 99 respondents with a cross-sectional study design using secondary data. The result show that the proportion of the age group <55 (10-54 years) is 74.7%, female (53.5%), and non-Papuan (85.9%). The most common clinical characteristics among the three symptoms studied were cough (49.5%), shortness of breath (42.4%), and fever (6.1%). Analysis of the relationship with the severity obtained p value =0.242, the relationship between age group with the severity obtained p value <0.001, the relationship between ethnicity and severity (p= 0.054), fever (p=0.193), cough and shortness of breath (p<0, 001). There are statistically significant relation, namely age, cough symptoms and shortness of breath with the severity of Covid-19, and there are no statistically significant relation, namely gender, ethnicity and fever symptoms with the severity of Covid-19.
