Abstract

Abstract

Background: Peel off gel masks have many advantages, apart from being easy to apply, this mask can also release and penetrate the active substances in a good way. Mulberry leaves (Morus alba L.) is plant that has been studied which have good antioxidant activity.

Objective: This study aims to determine the best formulation for gel masks and determine the antioxidant activity of peel off gel mask with mulberry leaves extract (Morus alba L.).

Method: The optimization of the gel base was carried out by formulating a peel off gel mask preparation using carbopol at 3 different concentrations, 0.5%, 1% and 2%, and then testes with several physical evaluation. After getting the best gel base formula, mulberry leaves extract was added and the preparation was carried out again for physical evaluation and then tested for antioxidant activity of mulberry leaf extract and peel off mask of mulberry extract.

Results: The IC50 of mulberry leaves ethanol extract is 79.16 ppm. The best result of the gel based optimization of the peel off gel mask was 0.5%. The physical eval results were green color and the gel homogeneous, specific scent of the material, thick, pH 6.85, spreading power 6.1 cm, adhesion 16.49 seconds, viscosity 43.9237 Pa.s, and time dried for 17.37 minutes with the antioxidant activity of 36767 ppm.

Conclusion: Mulberry leaves extract (Morus alba L.) can be formulated in the form of a peel off mask dosage form, but the antioxidant activity did not give a good number.
