Evaluasi Pola Peresepan Obat Pasien Rawat Jalan Ditinjau dari Indikator Peresepan WHO 1993 di RSUD Tugurejo Jawa Tengah
Abstract
Background: Rational drug prescribing is an important part of pharmaceutical care to achieve successful patient therapy. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that more than 50% of drug use worldwide is irrational due to inappropriate prescribing. The 1993 WHO prescribing indicators can be used to assess the irrationality of such prescribing.
Objective: To identify the evaluation of drug prescribing patterns and the relationship between patient characteristics and outpatient drug prescribing patterns in terms of WHO 1993 prescribing indicators at Tugurejo Hospital, Central Java.
Method: The study was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. Data collection was carried out retrospectively using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) data for outpatients in October-December 2022.
Results: The average number of drugs in each prescription document was 5.23; the percentage of drug prescriptions using generic names was 80.45%; the percentage of drug prescriptions containing antibiotics was 40.74%; the percentage of drug prescriptions containing injection preparations was 3.7%; the percentage of drug prescriptions in accordance with the National Formulary was 83.36%. The results of statistical analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between age group and the number of drugs prescribed (P value = 0.025), type of disease with the number of drugs prescribed (P value = 0.009), and health insurance status on the prescription of drugs with generic names (P value = 0.009) at Tugurejo Hospital, Central Java.
Conclusion: Evaluation of drug prescribing patterns in outpatients in terms of WHO 1993 prescribing indicators at Tugurejo Hospital in Central Java has not qualified the criteria for prescribing indicators and there is a relationship between patient characteristics (age, type of disease, and health insurance status) on drug prescribing patterns.
