Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membedah semiotika yang terdapat di dalam film Pretty Boys. Dalam film tersebut terdapat pesan-pesan implisit yang berkaitan dengan dua hal besar yakni transpuan dan industri televisi. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian kualitatif dengan pembedahan menggunakan metode semiotika Roland Barthes. Hasil penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa stigma negatif yang menempel pada sosok transpuan ternyata dimanfaatkan oleh industri televisi untuk mendongkrak rating. Tidak hanya itu, ada upaya eksploitasi sekaligus tersirat unsur pemaksaan untuk berlaku selayaknya transpuan demi mengejar rating.
