Abstract
The purpose of this review is to develop project-based junior high school social studies teaching materials containing 21st century skills for class VIII students. Teaching materials are structured to assist students in understanding social studies lessons with a project learning approach (PjBL) as well as to train students' 21st century skills. Project learning activities adopt project learning steps from Laboy Rush which consist of steps of Reflection, Reseach, Discovery, Application, and Communication. The 21st century skills that are integrated in teaching materials include creative thinking skills, critical thinking skills, communication skills and collaboration skills. The literature review that supports the research is junior high school social studies learning, project-based learning, 21st century skills and the development of teaching materials. This research method uses research and development (R & D) methods with research procedures adopting the Design by Research (DBR) model from Reeves. The subject of this research involved the MGMP IPS team of SMP kab. Blitar. The teaching materials validator team consists of social studies material experts, design experts and social studies learning practitioners in junior high schools. This development stage consists of preparing the prototype design of teaching materials, confirming the prototype design of teaching materials, expert validation tests and revisions based on the results of the validation tests. According to the characteristics of Design by Research, these development stages can be repeated cycles according to the findings. Data collection methods at the development stage are through interviews and questionnaires. Data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of this study produce project-based and 21st century social media teaching materials for SMP that are suitable for use by junior high school students
