Policy of Plagiarism Screening

The Journal of Biomedical Engineering Science and Technology (JBEU) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ethics. The journal does not tolerate any form of plagiarism or self-plagiarism in the manuscripts submitted to the journal.

Plagiarism is defined as the act of using or copying someone else’s work or ideas without proper acknowledgment or citation. Self-plagiarism is defined as the act of reusing one’s own previously published work or parts of it without proper acknowledgment or citation.

The journal uses Turnitin online plagiarism detection software to screen all manuscripts for plagiarism and self-plagiarism. The software compares the manuscripts with millions of sources, including academic journals, books, websites, and other publications.

The journal follows the COPE Guidelines for dealing with cases of plagiarism and self-plagiarism. The journal may take one or more of the following actions depending on the severity and extent of the plagiarism or self-plagiarism:

  • Reject the manuscript without further review
  • Request the author to revise the manuscript and provide a letter of explanation and apology
  • Issue a correction or retraction of the published article
  • Report the case to the author’s institution or funder
  • Ban the author from submitting to the journal for a certain period of time

The journal expects all authors to adhere to the principles of originality, honesty, and transparency in their research and publication. The authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions for any third-party material included in their manuscript. The authors are also required to declare any conflicts of interest, ethical issues, or funding sources related to their manuscript.

The journal also expects all reviewers and editors to respect the confidentiality and security of the manuscripts and to report any suspected cases of plagiarism or self-plagiarism to the editor-in-chief or associate editors.
